Think about this one. I'm probably one of the few individuals on the planet to have bought an iPhone and after about a week taken it back. For the record, this is why .. and also why you'll see me wandering around (for now) with something antiquated.
1. The battery doesn't last as long as I do - this is bad, very bad in the early hours when you need a phone to get home / back to your hotel
2. The bouncy UI is great, except that you can't use it as well as a tactile interface when operating with one hand. This means that texting while driving is problematic. (I should note that the events in this blog happened before the law changed in California).
3. Damn thing screwed up my calendaring when I changed timezones. Had to be reset before it started working properly again. You have to trust it to do the basic stuff. I didn't any more.
4. Keyboard entry was so good that I stopped firing up the laptop and started banging out long emails. After the week I was starting to get the old RSI twangs. Time to slow down.
5. Re #4, I like to use my phone as a modem (and too tight to buy a separate call plan). Doing this with the iPhone meant jailbreaking. Which is just downright rude.
Whereas my current phone has lasted 3 years, doesn't suffer from any of the above, gets regularly dropped, including surviving a dunking in the toilet. Don't steal my phone .. you now know where it's been!
Recently someone in Chicago upgraded to an iPhone and is suffering.
